About Us

Helping young people find a safer, stronger direction

Wright Direction exists to support young people, families and communities affected by crime, exclusion, poor mental health and lack of opportunity.

Through mentoring, workshops and trusted partnerships with families, schools, social services and community organisations, we help young people build confidence, develop life skills and make positive choices.

Our Story

Wright Direction was founded by Julian Wright, who grew up witnessing poverty, crime and lack of opportunity in his community. After experiencing many of the same barriers faced by the young people he now supports, he created the organisation to give others the guidance, opportunities and support he often wished had existed.

Growing up, Julian saw the impact of absent role models, limited opportunities, racism and poor experiences within education and the justice system. He also saw how easily young people could be pulled towards negative influences when they lacked support and direction. Those experiences shaped his belief that every young person deserves someone who believes in them, listens to them and helps them see a different path. That belief became Wright Direction.

Why Our Work Matters

Too many young people face challenges that make it harder for them to thrive.

These include:

  • Violence, exploitation and crime
  • Exclusion from school or poor engagement with education
  • Low confidence and poor mental health
  • Negative peer pressure and social media influence
  • Lack of positive role models and support

Without the right help, these challenges can shape the direction of a young person’s life. We exist to change that.

The Challenges We Tackle

Youth Crime & Violence

Education Gaps

Family Struggles

What We Do

We provide tailored support for young people and families through:

  • One-to-one mentoring
  • Group workshops and programmes
  • Support with confidence, emotional well-being, and decision-making
  • Help with education, training and employment
  • Guidance for families and parents
  • Partnerships with schools, local authorities, police and community organisations

Every young person is different. That is why we do not take a one-size-fits-all approach. We listen first, understand each individual’s needs, and provide support that is practical, personal and built around them

What Makes Us Different

Lived Experience
We understand the challenges many young people face because we have seen them and lived them ourselves. That helps us build trust quickly and create genuine connections.

Personalised Support
No two young people are the same. We tailor our support to the individual, whether they need mentoring, practical guidance, emotional support or help finding opportunities.

Long-Term Change
We do not just focus on the immediate problem. We help young people build confidence, resilience and the skills they need to create a positive future.

Who We Work With

We work with:

  • Young people at risk of crime, exclusion, poor mental health or negative influences
  • Families who need guidance, support and stronger relationships
  • Schools, colleges, PRUs and care settings
  • Police, social services, local authorities and community organisations

We believe lasting change happens when families, schools and communities work together.

The Difference We Want To Make
Success for us is not just about keeping young people out of trouble.

It is about helping them:

  • Feel safer and more confident
  • Make positive decisions
  • Stay engaged in school, training or employment
  • Build stronger relationships
  • Believe in themselves and their future

We want to create stronger families, safer communities and more opportunities for the next generation.

Our Values

At Wright Direction, we believe every young person deserves:

  • To feel safe
  • To be listened to
  • To be treated with respect
  • To have opportunities
  • To be supported and believed in

These values shape everything we do.
